1. Who controls your data
The data controller for this website is 221B Reboot / David Charles.
Data-protection contact: [email protected]
2. What this site collects
The site does not currently offer accounts, direct ordering, a contact form, a newsletter form, behavioural advertising, or audience analytics.
Limited technical information may still be processed:
- Hosting and security logs may include an IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp and error or security information.
- Your privacy choice is stored locally on your device so the site can remember whether optional media is allowed.
- The site uses a same-site network response, with browser language as a fallback, to infer a country for selecting an appropriate Amazon or Audible storefront. The inferred country is not stored by this site.
- A session-only display preference records when you dismiss the audiobook promotion so it does not repeatedly interrupt the same browsing session.
- If you allow and play an embedded YouTube video, Google/YouTube may receive network, device and interaction information.
- If you follow an external link, such as Amazon or YouTube, that service processes information under its own privacy notice.
3. Why the information is used
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Delivering pages, preventing abuse and maintaining security | Legitimate interests in operating a secure and reliable website |
| Remembering privacy choices | Necessary to comply with privacy and electronic communications obligations |
| Selecting a relevant Amazon or Audible storefront | Legitimate interests in providing useful regional purchase links |
| Remembering that an on-site promotion was dismissed during the session | Legitimate interests in providing a usable and non-repetitive website experience |
| Loading YouTube media | Consent, which may be withdrawn at any time |
| Meeting legal obligations or responding to valid legal requests | Legal obligation |
4. Service providers and international transfers
Hosting providers may process technical data to deliver and secure the site. The same hosting path is used to obtain a country code for regional store selection. YouTube media is supplied by Google only after optional-media consent. Amazon, Audible and YouTube become independent controllers when you choose to visit their services.
Some providers may process data outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where the site operator appoints a processor, appropriate contractual or legal transfer safeguards should be used where required. Third-party services publish their own transfer information and safeguards.
5. How long information is kept
- The privacy-choice record remains on your device for up to six months unless you clear it earlier.
- The audiobook-promotion dismissal record lasts only for the current browser-tab session.
- The inferred country used for store selection is not retained by the site.
- Hosting and security logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the site, detect abuse, investigate incidents and meet legal requirements, then deleted or anonymised.
- The site operator does not receive or retain YouTube or Amazon account information through this website.
6. Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data; restrict or object to processing; obtain portable data; and withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
Your right to object: where processing relies on legitimate interests, you may object based on your particular situation. You may object to direct marketing at any time. This site does not currently conduct direct marketing.
Use the privacy contact above to exercise a right. Identity verification may be required where reasonably necessary to protect your information.
7. Complaints
You may complain to the supervisory authority where you live or work, or where you believe a breach occurred. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). In the EU, you may contact your local data protection authority.
8. Children and automated decisions
This website is about a thriller novel and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect children's information. It does not make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
9. Changes to this notice
This notice will be reviewed when the site's data practices or service providers change. Material changes will be reflected here before new processing begins where required.
